Week 11/3-9/2024
Suggested Scripture to Ponder this week:
Hebrews 4:12
For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)
Commentary:

God's Word is powerful. It is the most powerful weapon in the world. It is far more powerful than any weapon of the enemy. The Holy Spirit will reveal God's truth to us through God's Word if we will allow it. Some of what God's Word reveals is wonderful, amazing, encouraging and life-changing. Some truth God's Word reveals will be uncomfortable, even painful, and also life-changing. It is TRUTH. Not the world's idea of changeable truth, but real Truth: God's Truth, that does not change or alter. It reveals God to us, and exposes our innermost being, even dividing our soul and spirit. Our spirit craves unity with God's Spirit. But our soul, our decision-maker, is often pulled by our flesh to look to the world rather than our Lord. Thus our soul and spirit sometimes struggle with each other: our soul seeking to silence our spirit and our spirit hurting and urging our soul back to God's path. The Word reveals not only our right and wrong actions, but the workings of our hearts and minds. It is the map and guide God provided for us. We are in a spiritual battle between Good and evil. It is imperative that we read, study and ponder God's Word to be equipped to stand and to fight against spiritual evil (Ephesians 6:12-18). God's Word is the sword of the Holy Spirit that God gives us to wield against the enemy. We cannot use this mighty weapon of God unless we allow God to train us to use it. We cannot use this mighty weapon of God if we leave it on the shelf and only casually glance at it once or twice a week. Using a sword effectively requires training, practice, self-discipline and commitment. Having access to the Word of God is an immense blessing. What a shame if we take this precious gift from God for granted. What a shame if we neglect this gift from God in favor of the distractions of the world and the flesh.
God's Word is powerful. Embrace It. Read It. Apply It to your life. Use It.
