He is GOD

Read Matthew 1:18-2:16.

King Herod thought himself a powerful king.  He called the priests to find out where the Christ was to be born, and knew this Child was of God.  Yet he thought he could outsmart God.  He thought he could thwart God's plan.

He ordered the wise men to return to tell him where this Child was, pretending a desire to honor God, while intending to destroy God's Son.

Nothing man does is a surprise to God.  God is Almighty.

Herod's priests and scribes were familiar with the writings of the prophets and were likely puzzled by the seeming inconsistencies.  This Child was to be born of a virgin (Matthew 1:23; Isaiah 7:14).  That's humanly impossible.  So they had compromised the meaning to be the first child of a young woman.  Thus when a  couple married, a common blessing given was the hope that they would produce the Messiah.  But God is not limited by human capabilities.

This Child was to be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2; Matthew 2:6),  but He was also to be called out of Egypt (Numbers 24:8; Matthew 2:15), and yet He would be called a Nazarene (Judges 13:5; Matthew 2:23).  How could He be from all three places?   God knew what Herod would do.  Man chooses to follow the Lord or rebel and fight against Him, but God is still in control.

In the world things may seem bad, out of control, even disastrous.  But believers can rest in the knowledge that, just as in rural Galilee and Judea 2000 years ago, God's plan is not altered by man's sin.  His Word will never fail.  His promises will never be altered.  We serve an Almighty God Who loves us and can take care of us regardless of what our circumstances look like, regardless of our lack of understanding.   He is

GOD.

We cannot make Him into what we want or imagine Him to be. He is

GOD.

We cannot define Him or understand Him with our human understanding or wisdom.  He is

GOD.

We need not worry when circumstances look bad.  God is not limited.  He is

GOD.

If we belong to Him, we can fully trust Him with everything.  He created the whole, intricate, miraculous world we live in.  He created time.  He created each individual one of us as a separate being with a plan for our individual lives (Psalm 22:9; Jeremiah 1:5; Galatians 1:15; Psalm 127:3). He controls the events of the world (Psalm 2:1-5), and yet He cares for little sparrows and knows when one falls (Matthew 10:29).  He is omnipotent and omniscient.  He knows the number of hairs on your head (Matthew 10:30).  He has no limits.

He is God and we are dust (Genesis 3:19).  Yet.... amazingly, He loves us (John 3:16; II Peter 3:9; I Timothy 2:4).  Almighty God,... loves us.  If we belong to Him, He orchestrates our lives for our good and His glory (Hebrews 13:20-21).  Our life here is but a vapor, and then we will be with Him, with GOD! with God in His glory... FOREVER (Romans 6:23).

Just as He orchestrated the events surrounding baby Jesus, with a plan for His life, He will care for all His children.  Circumstances surprise us.  Nothing surprises God.

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

(I Peter 5:6-7)

Mary and Joseph obeyed and trusted God, and God took care of them.  God's plan was far beyond their understanding but this one thing they did know and understand.  He is

GOD.

In God is my salvation and my glory;  The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
